My Cherie has returned with a soundscape for our inner fears. Speaking about societal expectations through “playing these games” - the multi instrumentalist/producer has created a dream pop soundtrack for the quietly quitting movement.

With EP Healing out at the end of October, Playing These Games, signals the theme of the larger body of work, with My Cherie telling us “I heard something once about how our generation’s biggest fear is ‘quiet’. We’re constantly overstimulated and have entertainment and distraction in our hands. We have a fear of sitting with the uncomfortable thoughts that come from real reflection because it might mean changing our behaviour or belief systems. So we pour ourselves into all different kinds of passions and routines but when we’re ignoring the big or hard questions our souls don’t find peace”.

The solo artist goes on to explain the extended player “was a process of healing as I faced new challenges and the universal growing pains of moving out of home, finding independence, seeing my parents as humans, and being humbled and confronted by growing more self aware and recognising my own complex issues/patterns as well as the universal craving of purpose and inner peace.’

Although Playing These Games is an upbeat, beefy electronic pop song, the lyrics really dive deep into the human conflict and fear of stopping our daily routines to actually question, reflect and try to find some peace within the struggle of not knowing answers to some of the big questions in life.
